The search for answers defines us since we know ourselves as Humanity. We have crossed the doors of philosophy, concrete sciences, technology - even in alchemy we have already dived headfirst. And we ask questions after questions: about climate urgency, about fallible political systems in light of human rights, about a Fashion industry so global that resists transition. And the more we advance and the more we ask, the more we find the freedom of identity. But revelation is a phased phenomenon. And we all need a refuge while crossing.
MODALISBOA OASIS, in co-organization with Lisbon City Council, inhabits Lisboa Social Mitra, the Social Innovation space of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, from 6th to 9th of October 2022 to create a unit of reality production, sharing intensities and points of view. It would not be possible to design a Fashion event without an integral view of the industry and this holistic perspective allows us to have a transcendent understanding, looking at our area of action – a fluid communication between Art, Culture, Technology, Sustainability and Business – as a fertile ecosystem, alive, in full. We will thus have a program dedicated to the artistic and plural domain of Fashion, with expository, performative, educational and thought derivatives. At the core, the shows and presentations, because Fashion Designers are unmistakably vectors of development and innovation in this march of time.
This idea of an oasis is far from romantic. It’s a necessary stance as we sail on arid waves. But, at the same time, it allows us to dream with the grandeur of what seems small, seeing humans as open systems, bigger than the sum of parts, capable of configuring equality and inclusion beyond utopian understandings.
This is the area of activity of the 59th Lisboa Fashion Week: a space, physical and metaphysical, where we will, as a collective, cross the desert.
MODALISBOA OASIS. All that is left is to create the impossible.
