Of all the visions we have from the world, the first one is the more pristine one. It’s pure. It’s intense. It’s spotless. The need to restart, that we feel several times throughout our lives, resides precisely there: in that letting go of the luggage we carry and in that letting go of old addictions. We know that freedom lives in the beginnings and that fashion can only be found in freedom. We also know that is in the beginning that the eyes are more open, absorbing colors, sensations and shapes with the thirst to grow. SANGUE NOVO is that beginning.
Of the 82 national and international applications, only ten took the runway in MODALISBOA COLLECTIVE. In October 2019, the world met these five finalists, who received a monetary prize of 1000 euros and an applause from the jury that granted them a presence in March. And here we are. At March 6, 2020, Cêlá, Filipe Cerejo, Flávia Brito, Francisco Pereira and Inês Manuel Baptista will present their collections for fall/winter 2020/21.
In the months that separated these two seasons of Lisbon Fashion Week, the core members of the jury, for this edition of the contest, met with the finalists for mentoring, advisory and, essentially, growth meetings. Miguel Flor (President), who was the winner of the Sangue Novo contest in 1996, and since then has been a major name in fashion, design, art and photography, adding to his creative multiplicity the direction of Principal magazine and the constant work on new talent discovery. Lidija Kolovrat, Bosnian-born fashion designer, studied fashion and cinema in Zagreb, Croatia, and, in 1990, moved to Lisbon to create a brand that has become an icon of creativity. And Veronique Branquinho, Belgian fashion designer with Portuguese ancestry, who studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, in the mythical Antwerp, that adds to her homonym brand experience in teaching, curatorship, artistic direction and editing. These are the names responsible for guiding the contestants, for monitoring the collections, for building identity. To them will join, at MODALISBOA AWAKE, Adriano Batista (Director of Fucking Young! Magazine, the super fresh, pertinent and disruptive publication of streetwear and menswear); Danilo Venturi (Director of Polimoda, the best fashion school in Italy, and one of the top ten fashion schools in the world) and Ricardo Silva (Head of Operations of Tintex, the factory that is leading the Portuguese textile industry towards innovation and sustainability), to announce the winners of the three grand prizes of yet another annual edition of the young designers contest. In other words, to announce the future.
