We wake up and we look to our phones.
The hours scare us.
We scroll through notifications.
We browse through last minute news.
We see the world in the palm of our hands.
We open the frontal camera to see how open are our eyes.
We see ourselves in the palm of our hands.
The image we have of life is right there, in our hands, the hands that reflect the others. The same hands that returned us the right to voice our thoughts, to participate in the world, to have a civic conscience – we have become informed beings that demand to be heard and taken into account. We react. We demand a new fashion industry: one that it’s fairer, more sustainable, more ethical, more innovative, more inclusive, more humane. We have complained, pointed fingers, reported, and re-tweeted. Now what?
Now we are AWAKE. And AWAKE is the post-reaction. It’s not only having a deep awareness of the world in which we live in, but also having an active conscience regarding it, that materializes in real conquests, in change. AWAKE is not reporting on Instagram Stories a controversial post: is getting up, leaving the house and building the future. AWAKE is changing our daily habits, is adopting transparency as modus operandi; is consuming with logic, producing with quality, buying with purpose. AWAKE is being permanently connected to all the live and breathing human beings on the planet.
In co-organization with the Municipality of Lisbon, MODALISBOA AWAKE returns to Campo de Santa Clara, between 5 and 8 of March, to present the designers collections for fall/winter 2020/21, at the same time that devotes all it’s open events to sustainability. Aligned with Lisbon’s election as Europe’s Green Capital 2020, this is our commitment and this is our only way of looking forward – after all, waking up doesn’t just mean an awakening, it also means to agree and we all agree that this is the only way to move forward. MODALISBOA AWAKE opens up itself even more to the world with the United Fashion project, that will bring to Lisbon 15 young European designers, in a unique promotion of European independent fashion.
Making a difference depends on us. To act depends on us. To write the new chapter in the industry’s history depends on us. To support the tissue of young designers, of the brave ones who defy the rulebook, of the ones who buy local products, of the bold ones who can find meaning through the constant noise of the flow of information depends on us. Tomorrow belongs to them. Tomorrow belongs to us.
MODALISBOA AWAKE. The future is in our hands.
