LET’S DRAW THE TOMORROW.
We don’t know how the future will be. But we may know who the future will be. From the 99 applications, received by the ModaLisboa Association, the 10 young designers that will compete in the phase one of the Sangue Novo contest are now selected.
André Jorge, Andreia Reimão, Ari Paiva, Arndes, Benedita Formosinho, Bolota Studio, Feliciano, Fora de Jogo, Pilar do Rio and Rafael Ferreira. On the 10 of October, at 6pm, and for the first time since the genesis of the competition, the selected runway collections won’t be presented at ModaLisboa in a physical runway format: instead the public will see the pieces through video, in a digital experience that answers to the times that we are presently living in and to the times in which we predict to be living in. In a screen, all the promises.
It was also digitally that, for the first time, we received the applicants’ portfolios. It was also digitally that, for the first time, the jury met to debate, analyze and, ultimately, choose. Miguel Flor (winner of the Sangue Novo contest in 1996; Fashion, design, art and photography creative force; and editor-in-chief of Prinçipal magazine), president of the jury, was joined by Rosário de Mello e Castro (editor-in-chief of Máxima) and Ricardo Dourado (senior designer at Zara Woman). Adriano Batista (editor-in-chief of Fucking Young! magazine) and Danilo Venturi (Polimoda Director) will complete the judging panel that will announce the five designers that will move on to the next – and final – phase. Each finalist will receive a monetary award of 1000 euros – and will present a new collection in March 2021, the date when the jury will elect the winners of Sangue Novo.
