After collaborating with Tashi and Salsa, Luís Carvalho joins forces with the French brand, Kaporal, to create a capsule collection that gives a new life to leftover fabrics and used jeans.

The collection, available at Kaporal‘s e-shop, has the theme “Deconstruction-Reconstruction” and includes 11 unique pieces with straight and oversize lines, made of recycled denim in different shades of blue. The raw material was collected at the brand’s stores in Marseille, thanks to the “Kaporal Impact Recycling” program launched in 2014 — which allows to collect old jeans to give them a new life — and through fabric scraps and denim that is no longer used. 80% of the pieces are genderless and were designed and handcrafted at the 13 A’TIPIK studio, in Marseille.

“We noticed Luís’ work 3 years ago at the prestigious OpenMyMed award organized by the Fonds de Dotation Mode Méditerranée, in Marseille. His experience in denim and his precision in tailoring seduced us completely. With this partnership, Luís Carvalho was able to enhance denim’s Mediterranean heritage by introducing an ‘eco couture’ modernization bypassing the form, function and genre of jeanswear”, explains Guillaume Ruby, director of marketing and communication at Kaporal.

Luís Carvalho is also excited about this collaboration. “For me it is an honor to be invited to this international collaboration with this great Mediterranean brand from Marseille”, says the designer.
