Underdogs Gallery, in Lisbon, presents “From the World, Made in Lisboa”, a group exhibition that brings together a set of unique pieces of international artists who have been exhibiting at the gallery since its opening, in 2013. The exhibition will be open until May 18, with free admission.
Encompassing a rich panoply of styles and visual languages, “From the World, Made in Lisboa” gathers a group of artists of various nationalities who have been developing their practice in an articulation between the public space and the exhibition space: André Saraiva, Anthony Lister, Clemens Behr, Cyrcle, Ernest Zacharevic, Felipe Pantone, Finok, Okuda San Miguel, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine, PichiAvo, Shepard Fairey, WK Interact.
Inspired by the material and immaterial reality that gives shape to our urban societies in the present global context, these artists share an approach with a universal reach that has seen them, each in his own way, create work in countless cities around the world, united by the objective of spreading their message and their artistic vision.
According to Pauline Foessel, co-founder of Underdogs, the artists were completely free to create the works for "From the World, Made in Lisbon". "The desire was not to have a curatorial concept defined for the exhibition, it was to have pieces more emblematic of their techniques. There are very different works, there is a connection between them that makes sense. "
After this retrospective of the international artists who have already exhibited at Underdogs, the gallery has "a desire to do the same with Portuguese artists".
Founded by Pauline Foessel and Alexandre Farto (Vhils) in July 2013, Underdogs is a cultural platform, divided between public art, with paintings on the walls of the city, exhibitions inside the doors and the production of original artistic editions.
