Saskia Lenaerts holds a Master degree in fashion menswear from Central Saint Martins, Winner of The Considered Design award sponsored by Johnstons of Elgin and L’Oreal Professionnel scholarship.
Her work aims to disarm prejudice. It pushes for a more unified and borderless world, founded on celebrating both our cultural differences and commonalities.
"Rare Fruit " is a celebration of diversity, a statement that today we are all hybrids in some way.
This collection is based on the lingering effects of colonialism. It questions the sustainability of the global circulation of clothing and, at the same time, challenges and raises humanitarian issues related to decolonization and alterity.
Each look represents the "other ", it is different in silhouette, material and color. But all the looks are united as a collection.
To materialize this collection, there were used used objects, leather cuts and dyed cotton.
The diversity of my origins and my fascination with trying to understand how people move forward, form identities and picture themselves through fashion and clothing are the bases of the collection.
