Indra Komarova is from Riga, Latvia. A graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia, she started her fashion design career while studying. Along with very different practices, like personal designer, stylist, stage costume designer, fashion events planner and even featured on TV show about style, she participated in several fashion competitions and has won a few grand prix in them. She is a designer and co-owner of her womenswear brand TALENTED (launched in 2015), a lecturer in the Art Academy of Latvia’s Fashion Department and a member of the Design and Architecture Commission at State Culture Capital Foundation.
Talented is inspired by women’s movement. The way a woman looks at the mirror, how she moves, where she look for pockets, how she turns around. What a woman needs is the basis for what clothing should be. The brand invests a lot on the construction of the garments, opting not to use an overlock in their studio — all the seams are treated with ribbon, are flat-lock seams or French seams, and are finished so cleanly that you can even wear the dress inside out. All the garments are made with care in their studio right after they receive an order. This allows them to work without waste and avoid overproducing. The materials are chosen to make sure the garments feel pleasant on the skin, and details such as spacious pockets are a rule - and a blessing.
The base for this collection was the cancellation of the first all-female spacewalk due to lack of properly fitted space suits. Such news seemed to be so absurd that initially it sounded like a joke. However, women face similar situations every day. A woman should not live in a man's world, but just simply in a world where things, work and situations are designed for her too.
Continuing her work on the topic of powerful and independent women who have found their place in life in professions historically related to men, the designer Indra Komarova has addressed spacewomen. First of all, clothing designed to wear at space stations is functional, and functionality is one of the brand’s values. The collection is like a visualized reflection of play on functionality and decorativeness in female clothing, as well as the role of professionalism and sexuality on a daily basis.
