Archie Dickens is a Co-Ed Knitwear brand delivering luxury one-off pieces that are environmentally conscious and handmade in the workshop in Anjos70, Lisboa. The brand was started in June 2018, after the designer graduated from his Masters in Fashion at The Royal College of Art. His first collection was shown at the Sangue Novo - Young Designers Competition show during ModaLisboa, in October 2018. Since then, Archie Dickens has shown in ModaLisboa all following seasons - firstly the second stage of Sangue Novo, in March 2019, and then in October 2019 in the Workstation platform.
DEADSTOCK2020 is the embryonic stage of their new anti-fashion direction inspired by Li Edelkoort and the courageous friends involved with Extinction Rebellion. It is the beginning of a concerted move from fashion into clothing — it should not be seen as a new season, but a new selection of pieces to combine with your old ones. The collection draws upon the extreme pressure and desperation we feel about the state of the environment, and the need to change our own practices and begin to examine how to do things better in a thoughtful way. Every piece of clothing made for the collection has been constructed using materials that the brand had in the studio or in their homes. Nothing else has been purchased — this is to ensure zero waste and to force them to become more dynamic and resourceful in our practice. This is a two-pronged approach to deal with the climate emergency and our own financial struggles as a new brand. Each piece is unique and made with love and heartbreak.
