There are several ways to spell the word "sustainability". None is better than the other, none is greater than the other, and only when they all come together will we achieve a completely ethical, clean and responsible industry. This is the story that the Portuguese Shoes exhibition tells us: that of a Portugal leader in the development of sustainable solutions.

In 2019, APICCAPS and the Footwear Technological Center (CTCP) presented an Action Plan for the Footwear Cluster for Sustainability, which is divided into three fundamental axes: Planet, People and Companies. Within it, there are actions such as the development of new materials, traceability of raw materials, environmental footprint of products, reduction of water consumption or energy efficiency. There are many, they are diverse: that's because sustainability has to be transversal, whether in the pair of shoes we wear or in the working conditions of those who make them.

Fortunately, there are already several brands serving as a bastion of innovation. And what does Portuguese Shoes bring to ModaLisboa AND NOW WHAT? are precisely some of the examples that have already taken the first step.

Within the communication strategy MODAPORTUGAL, eleven Portuguese companies of fabrics, footwear and clothing joined forces to produce the uniforms of the teams of the Portuguese Pavilion at Expo Dubai.

The creative process, signed by the designer Filipe Augusto and curated by Miguel Flor, was inspired by the cultural traits that touch both cultures, and conceived a project based on the patterns of typical Portuguese tiles, which find many correspondences also in the Arab culture.

The companies Belcinto, Calvelex, Carité, Lameirinho, Marfel, Paulo de Oliveira, Polopiqué, Riopele, Trotinete, Twintex and Vandoma joined this creative effort, as Portuguese ambassadors of the clothing, footwear and textile sectors that, in an exemplary way, reaffirmed their industrial excellence in an aggregator project and on a path of close cooperation and mutual support. From Portugal to the World...
